Let’s go back to: The first episode of Lip Sync Battle, because I just about died watching the second season premiere episode. Seriously people. It was amazing. But The Rock and Jimmy Fallon got it all started last April on Spike. Why it means something to you or to our podcast: It originally was introduced as a skit by John Krasinski on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. And we all know how much my co-host Kelly adores Jimmy Fallon. It quickly turned into one of the most popular repeat segments, so Krasinski, Fallon, and Stephen Merchant turned it into a show of it's own. It produced viral moment after viral moment through it's first season and after tonight looks poised to continue that trend. Where can you find it now? The show is on Spike Thursdays at 10:00PM, but you can also check out all the performances on their YouTube channel. -Christina
Is this really our second awards show season since starting this website? As always, we’re excited to share with you our picks. Unfortunately we’ll have to wait until next year to complain about Star Wars getting snubbed.
Best Motion Picture - Drama
Christina: Who knows, maybe Star Wars will be next year’s surprise pick. With the number of blockbusters coming out they’ll have to nominate at least one. I’m going with Spotlight. It has all the elements of award show bait and is low enough profile to be a good sleeper pick. Because we know voters like to be snooty about films few people have seen. Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama
Kelly: All these women are strong competitors, but I’m going to predict the person who I’d most like to see win and that’s Saoirse Ronan. I love her and I want her to win and watch the presenter struggle with her cool Irish name. Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama
Christina: DiCaprio. Remember, this isn’t the Oscars. He’s already won two Golden Globes (The Aviator, The Wolf of Wall Street). Kelly: I said one step CLOSER. The Artist: Adele The Song: "When We Were Young" The YouTube Link: Where you heard it first: I first heard this song on the radio and immediately fell in love. It hasn't been released as a single yet and has already reached #22 on the US charts. If that doesn't tell you how much power Adele holds over music right now, I don't know what will. Why it’s been stuck in your head: Adele's flawless vocals once again draw you in immediately. She really doesn't even need a band behind her to have a hit. Why you recommend it to our listeners: Just think of your OTP, kick back with a hot drink, and let your mind drift away. -Christina
