Best Miniseries or Movie
"American Horror Story: Coven" “Bonnie & Clyde” “Fargo” “Luther” “Treme” “The White Queen” xoxokellylee: I haven’t even heard of most of these. For that reason, I’m just going to pick a random one and say AHS. callmechristinae: It probably will go to Fargo. I haven’t seen a miniseries with that much critical buzz in a while. But do yourself a favor and watch this final season of Luther. It’s some of the best television I’ve seen in a while. Best Actress Miniseries or Movie Jessica Lange, “American Horror Story: Coven” Sarah Paulson, “American Horror Story: Coven” Helena Bonham Carter, “Burton and Taylor” Minnie Driver, “Return to Zero” Kristen Wiig, “The Spoils of Babylon” Cicely Tyson, “The Trip Bountiful” callmechristinae: I think this one will go to Jessica Lange. xoxokellylee: Yeah, what she said. Best Actor in a Miniseries or Movie Chiwetel Ejiofor, “Dancing on the Edge” Martin Freeman, “Fargo” Billy Bob Thornton, “Fargo” Idris Elba, “Luther” Mark Ruffalo, “The Normal Heart” Benedict Cumberbatch, “Sherlock: His Last Vow” xoxokellylee: I’m torn because Mark Ruffalo was awesome in The Normal Heart, but….Benedict Cumberbatch…. I think it’s either going to Billy Bob Thornton or Chiwetel Ejiofor, though. callmechristinae: My heart says Idris Elba, my mind says Billy Bob Thornton. I wish I could say Benefict Cumberbatch, but this latest round of Sherlock was probably the weakest (through no fault of the actors). Supporting Actor, Miniseries or Movie Colin Hanks, “Fargo” Jim Parsons, “The Normal Heart” Joe Mantello, “The Normal Heart” Alfred Molina, “The Normal Heart” Matt Bomer, “The Normal Heart” Martin Freeman, “Sherlock: His Last Vow” callmechristinae: Who should get it? Jim Parsons or Matt Bomer. There’s a risk of vote splitting here again, but I think Matt Bomer has a strong chance being a fresher face to the voters. xoxokellylee: Jim Parsons DESERVES this win. Or Matt Bomer. He was also amazing. Supporting Actress, Miniseries or Movie Frances Conroy, “American Horror Story: Coven” Kathy Bates, “American Horror Story: Coven” Angela Bassett, “American Horror Story: Coven” Allison Tolman, “Fargo” Ellen Burstyn, “Flowers In the Attic” Julia Roberts, “The Normal Heart” xoxokellylee: Julia Roberts actually impressed me in her role in The Normal Heart. I didn’t see any of these other nominees so I can’t really judge them. callmechristinae: Why no Ruth Wilson for Luther? Seriously? She is AMAZING. But I guess I’ll go with Julia Roberts. Outstanding Animated Program "Archer" “Bob’s Burgers” “Futurama” “South Park” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Manhattan Project” callmechristinae: I just want to hear someone say Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at the Emmys. xoxokellylee: I just…..I can’t judge this. Outstanding Host: Reality-Competition Program Betty White, “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers” Tom Bergeron, “Dancing with the Stars” Jane Lynch, “Hollywood Game Night” Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, “Project Runway” Cat Deeley, “So You Think You Can Dance” Anthony Bourdain, “The Taste” xoxokellylee: Betty White should get this because she’s Betty White. callmechristinae: Betty White or Tom Bergeron. Reality-Competition Program "The Amazing Race" “So You Think You Can Dance” “Dancing with the Stars” “Top Chef” “Project Runway” “The Voice” callmechristinae: The Amazing Race seems to be the default come awards season. I think The Voice gets less respect because it hasn’t churned out superstars, but it’s great television and that’s what this category is about. xoxokellylee: The Voice is so much better without Christina and Cee-Lo. They should get this award just to reinforce that good decision making. Variety Series "The Colbert Report" “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” “Jimmy Kimmel Live” “Real Time with Bill Maher” “Saturday Night Live” “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” xoxokellylee: I want Jimmy to take this home because I’ve loved him for years and am so proud of this impressive step forward, but I know it’s either going to Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert. callmechristinae: Colbert won last year and recently announced the end of the show. I think he’ll probably take it home again this year. But Jimmy Fallon has been a breath of fresh air to late night television. Children’s Program "Degrassi" “Dog with a Blog” “Good Luck Charlie” “Nick News With Linda Ellerbee - Family Secrets: When Violence Hits Home” “One Last Hug: Three Days at Grief Camp” “Wynton Marsalis – A YoungArts Masterclass” callmechristinae: Uh, Nick News? I have no idea, but I watched that as a kid. xoxokellylee: I didn’t even know this was a category…..I remember thinking Linda Ellerbee was old when WE watched Nick News and that was 20 years ago!

Best Drama Series
"Breaking Bad" “Downton Abbey” “Game of Thrones” “House of Cards” “Mad Men” “True Detective” callmechristinae: This is a showdown between “Breaking Bad” and “True Detective.” Everyone else can just go home. xoxokellylee: ….Game of Thrones? Ah, let’s be honest: Christina is right. Best Actress in a Drama Series Lizzy Caplan, “Masters of Sex” Claire Danes, “Homeland” Michelle Dockery, “Downton Abbey” Julianna Margulies, “The Good Wife” Kerry Washington, “Scandal” Robin Wright, “House of Cards” xoxokellylee: Four for you, Janis Ian. You go, Janis Ian! And none for Gretchen Weiners. Bye. callmechristinae: I’ve heard great things about Robin Wright’s performance, and Julianna Margulies and Kerry Washington are always amazing. I think this category might be the biggest toss up. Interesting that Tatiana Maslany, who won the Critics Choice Award, doesn’t even score a nomination here for Orphan Black. Best Actor in a Drama Series Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad” Jeff Daniels, “The Newsroom” Jon Hamm, “Mad Men” Woody Harrelson, “True Detective” Matthew McConaughey, “True Detective” Kevin Spacey, “House of Cards” callmechristinae: I think Harrelson and McConaughey could split the vote, giving Bryan Cranston the chance to win for his final performance as Walter White. I was really disappointed that neither of the “Hannibal” leads made to final cut. They give flawless performances of flawed characters. xoxokellylee: I think it’s either going to go to Bryan Cranston because it’s his final performance as Walter White or Matthew McConaghey so he can get one step closer to EGOT. But can I point out the major snub to Michael Sheen as Dr. Masters on Masters of Sex? Supporting Actor, Drama Series Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad” Jim Carter, “Downton Abbey” Peter Dinklage, “Game of Thrones” Josh Charles, “The Good Wife” Mandy Patinkin, “Homeland” Jon Voight, “Ray Donovan” xoxokellylee: I think this is going to go to Jon Voight just because, hey, he’s Jon Voight. I also wouldn’t mind Josh Charles taking this home. callmechristinae: Jon Voight is really amazing on Ray Donovan. His performance is effortless. But I expect some votes to swing Aaron Paul and Josh Charles’ way for their final performances in those roles. xoxokellylee: Mandy Patinkin, holla! Supporting Actress, Drama Series Anna Gunn, “Breaking Bad” Maggie Smith, “Downton Abbey” Lena Headey, “Game of Thrones” Christine Baranski, “The Good Wife” Christina Hendricks, “Mad Men” Joanne Froggatt, “Downton Abbey” callmechristinae: I’m calling Maggie Smith because she’s Maggie Smith, but Lena Headey probably has an outside chance. xoxokellylee: My vote will always go to Maggie Smith. callmechristinae: Five points for Gryffindor. xoxokellylee: Endless points to Granny Wendy. Outstanding Guest Actor in Drama Paul Giamatti as Harold Levinson in “Downton Abbey” Dylan Baker as Colin Sweeney in “The Good Wife” Reg E. Cathey as Freddy in “House Of Cards” Robert Morse as Bertram Cooper in “Mad Men” Beau Bridges as Barton Scully in “Masters of Sex” Joe Morton as Rowan Pope in “Scandal” xoxokellylee: Beau Bridges’ character was such an interesting one on Masters of Sex, but I haven’t seen all these other men. callmechristinae: I like Dylan Baker? Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series Margo Martindale as Claudia in “The Americans” Diana Rigg as Lady Olenna Tyrell in “Game of Thrones” Kate Mara as Zoe Barnes in “House of Cards” Allison Janney as Margaret Scully in “Masters of Sex” Jane Fonda as Leona Lansing in “The Newsroom” Kate Burton as Sally Langston in “Scandal” callmechristinae: I think Allison Janney, but I’m not sure why… xoxokellylee: I liked what a conniving person Lady Oleanna was. I kind of want her to take this just for her awesomeness, but I have a feeling it will go to Kate Burton. Allison Janney was funny on Masters of Sex. I wouldn’t mind her taking it home either. Best Comedy Series
"The Big Bang Theory" “Louis” “Modern Family” “Orange Is the New Black” “Silicon Valley” “Veep” xoxokellylee: I only watch two of these and in my opinion, they’re both hilarious, but knowing the way things usually go at the Emmys, I’m hoping that this will go to Modern Family, but I think with the recent success of OITNB, it could possibly go to the newbie. callmechristinae: My money’s actually on The Big Bang Theory taking home the prize even though it’s one of the less deserving in the category. It’s funny, but Louis and OITNB are much fresher and bring something new to the table. Best Actress in a Comedy Series Lena Dunham, “Girls” Edie Falco, “Nurse Jackie” Julia Louis Dreyfus, “Veep” Melissa McCarthy, “Mike & Molly” Amy Poehler, “Parks & Recreation” Taylor Schilling, “Orange Is the New Black” callmechristinae: This is the beginning of a trend where I realize how much TV I actually don’t watch. But I think Julia Louis Dreyfus’ already award winning role is the one to beat. Mindy Kaling is a big snub though. xoxokellylee: I agree with Christina, I obviously don’t watch enough “quality” television to make an educated decision. However, like I said before, I think with the new big thing being her show, Taylor Schilling might get this one. Best Actor in a Comedy Series Jim Parsons, “The Big Bang Theory” Ricky Gervais, “Derek” Matt LeBlanc, “Episodes” Don Cheadle, “House of Lies” Louis C.K., “Louie” William H. Macy, “Shameless” xoxokellylee: If Matt LeBlanc is anything like his Friends character, I’d want him to take this, hands down. And I know that he has in the past. However, based purely on popularity, I think Jim Parsons is going to take this one. Aw, big snub to Mr. Andy Samberg! callmechristinae: I agree that Jim Parsons will take it, but what happened to Andy Samberg for Brooklyn Nine-Nine? I’m really bummed Robin Williams didn’t get a nod for “The Crazy Ones,” but his chances were probably hurt by the show’s cancellation. He definitely lit up the screen with his usual charm and ad libs. Supporting Actor, Comedy Series Andre Braugher, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Adam Driver, “Girls” Jesse Tyler Ferguson, “Modern Family” Ty Burrell, “Modern Family” Fred Armisen, “Portlandia” Tony Hale, “Veep” callmechristinae: I think it’ll probably go to one of the “Modern Family” guys, but I’d love to see Andre Braugher win. xoxokellylee: Considering the fact that Andre Braugher plays a gay police captain, I would hope that he wins just because of that, but I think the stand out of this category is Ty Burrell. Phil Dunphy never disappoints. Supporting Actress, Comedy Series Mayim Bialik, “The Big Bang Theory” Julie Bowen, “Modern Family” Allison Janney, “Mom” Kate Mulgrew, “Orange Is the New Black” Kate McKinnon, “Saturday Night Live” Anna Chlumsky, “Veep” xoxokellylee: To me, Anna Chlumsky is just the girl from My Girl and she always will be. I have never seen Mom, but Allison Janney is usually a comedic genius. If I’m only picking from shows I watch, I’d have to say Julie Bowen gets this one for me. callmechristinae: You’re pretty safe guessing BBT and MF most of the time. But the Trekkie in me needs to give a shoutout to Kate Mulgrew. Captain Janeway was my idol growing up. Outstanding Guest Actor In A Comedy Series Bob Newhart as Arthur in “The Big Bang Theory” Nathan Lane as Pepper Saltzman in “Modern Family” Steve Buscemi as Marty in “Portlandia” Jimmy Fallon as Host in “SNL” Louis C.K. as Host in “SNL” Gary Cole as Kent Davison in “Veep” xoxokellylee: Nathan Lane is absolutely hilarious as Pepper Saltzman, but I also want Jimmy Fallon to take this for bringing back so many of his awesome characters to the Christmas episode of SNL. I think it’ll either go to Nathan Lane or Bob Newhart. callmechristinae: I want this to go to either Bob Newhart for picking a fight with Bill Nye the Science Guy or Jimmy Fallon for being Jimmy Fallon. In depth analysis here guys. xoxokellylee: Jimmy brought Justin Timberlake with him. That in and of itself should get him the award. Outstanding Guest Actress In A Comedy Series Natasha Lyonne as Nicky Nichols in “Orange is the New Black” Uzo Aduba as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in “Orange is the New Black” Laverne Cox as Sophia Burset in “Orange is the New Black” Tina Fey as Host in “SNL” Melissa McCarthy as Host in “SNL” Joan Cusack as Sheila Jackson in “Shameless” callmechristinae: I don’t know who will take it home, but can we just talk about how groundbreaking it would be for Laverne Cox to win? xoxokellylee: Tina Fey is my idol and therefore, I think she should take this trophy home. Joan Cusack is also hilariously neurotic on Shameless. However, I think Natasha Lyonne will take this one. |
