Episode 032 - “Summer Lovin' Had Me A Blast”

Episode Length: 1:27:11

Episode Summary:

Yes, we’re still alive!  And we’re back for our thirty-second episode!  We start off with a little Fandom News and an apology for taking an unexpected summer hiatus.  We congratulate Tom Holland on winning the role of the new Spiderman and talk a little about Captain America: Civil War.  As usual, we give you all the important fall premiere dates for September and we hope you all enjoy all your shows coming back for the new season.  We recap our first experience at San Diego Comic-Con and look forward to going again next summer!  As always, we share our obsessions with Hannibal, Bachelor in Paradise, and unreal and then we get into our favorite topic of discussion, Teen Wolf.  We also chat about the end of Hannibal and all the great announcements made at Disney’s D23 convention last month.  If you haven’t had a chance to check out the winners of the Fandom Emmys, we recap all of them for you here and we share our excitement over certain winners.  Of course, we take some time out of our regularly scheduled programming to remind you that CHOC Walk is coming up and we would like all of you to support CHOC Children’s Hospital in Orange County.  As official media partners for the Walk, we hope you all will take some time to donate just a little bit or to participate in the Walk itself.  It’s such a great cause that’s near and dear to our hearts.  We congratulate our Episode MVPs: the Katie Cassidy fans.  We love how much you all love Katie Cassidy and you all are so sweet!  As always, we share our Ship Moments with Sciles and Hannigram and remind all you lovely listeners about the various platforms where you can follow us, tweet us, download our episodes, or contact us.  Make sure you check out Episode 33 where we’ll talk all about CHOC Walk!

This week’s featured music:

"Summer Lovin'" by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John from the movie Grease

"Cool for the Summer" by Demi Lovato

With CHOC Walk less than a month away now, we here at A Little Nerd Music, the official Media Partners for the event, are busting out our walking shoes and getting ready for another great year walking for the kids at CHOC Children's Hospital.  We hope you all have had a chance to check out the cause, but if not, click here to sign up as a Walker or donate to the CHOC Walk.

CHOC Walk Check-In begins Saturday, October 3rd at the CHOC Walk Office located in on the first floor of the CHOC Commerce Tower at 505 S. Main Street, Orange, CA 92868

 Saturday, October 3rd:
10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Sunday, October 4th:    10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Wednesday, October 7th:    12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Thursday, October 8th:    12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Friday, October 9th:
12:00 PM - 8:00 PM

We know a lot of you participating may have a few questions and we're here to answer them!  Here's some of the most frequently asked questions:

Can I pick up t-shirts for someone else?
Yes, you may pick up shirts for other people on your team

What if I don’t know my team members’ sizes?
At the check-in office, staff members can look up the sizes for you, but it will take a few extra minutes to pull up a report.  If it’s easier, you can call/text your team members for their sizes in advance

How old do you have to be to pay the $65?  What about a senior?
The same rules apply as Disneyland Park, so anyone 3 years old and up must register as a Walker

Can we register the day of the event?
No, unfortunately you cannot register that day

What about prizes?  What do I qualify for?  When will I get them?
Prize packages will be shipped out at the end of the year, so you should get them in the mail sometime in January.
Check out which prizes you qualify for!

Can I still turn in money the day of the Walk or after the event?
You do need to have the preliminary $65 turned in to get a wristband, but you can continue to collect donations for prize packages until October 30th.

Why are my gifts not showing up in my fundraising total?
This year, your gifts aren’t recorded until we have the check/cash in our hands.  Once I confirm these gifts in your record, it will show up.

One of my team members didn’t put in their $65 but can they still get a shirt/wristband?
No, the preliminary $65 must be recorded in the computer in order to be able to pick up a wristband/t-shirt for a Walker.

I registered my son/daughter and all the team members just donated $65 to them.  That counts as team members, right?
No, each team member needs to be registered for the Walk in order for us to get an accurate number of participants.  They can register and have the $65 transferred to their account.

What’s the Luau?  Do I get to go if I’m registered for the Walk?
The Luau is a new event that’s held at Disneyland Hotel the night before CHOC Walk, but you can buy tickets for the Luau while they are still available.
Ages 3-11:    $35
Ages 12-17:    $55
Ages 18+:        $75
VIP Ages 3-11:    $75
VIP Ages 12-17:    $100
VIP Adult:    $150

What time does the Walk actually start?
Opening Ceremonies start in Disneyland at 6:15AM and the starting gun is at 6:30AM

What time do I have to be there?
We recommend that you get to Disneyland around 5:00AM because it takes about an hour to park, however the Walk itself doesn’t start until 6:30AM

Where do I park?  How much is parking?
Parking will be available in the Mickey and Friends parking structure which is the main parking structure off of Katella.  Parking is free.

Is the tram running?
The tram will not be running.  You’ll be walking on the tram path to get to the park

What places in Downtown Disney are open that early for food?
LaBrea Bakery and Starbucks will be open at 6AM with coffee/tea and baked goods

What if I’m late?  Can I still walk?
If you arrive after 7:30AM, you’ll only be walking through California Adventure and no one can begin the Walk after 8:00AM

How long does the Walk last?
The Walk is from 6:15AM – 10:00AM

How long is the Walk in miles?
It's a 5K or 3.1 miles

What do I actually need the day of the event?
All you need is your wristband.  That is your ticket into the event

Can I rent a stroller/wheelchair from Disneyland?
No, strollers and wheelchairs will not be available to rent from Disneyland

Can I bring in food/water?  Can I buy food/water in the park?
None of the vendors will be open at that time, so you won’t be able to buy food/water in the park, however you’re allowed to bring your own in and we’ll be handing out water bottles in the middle of the Walk.

Which park does it start in?
The Walk starts in Disneyland Park and goes through California Adventure, ending in the middle of Downtown Disney

Can I bring my pet?
No, only services animals are allowed

Can we wear our own shirts?  Do I have to wear the CHOC Walk shirt?
No, you don’t have to wear the event shirt.  A lot of teams have their own team shirts!  However, make sure you look for ALNM's logo on the back of the event shirts!

Do I get to go into the parks after the Walk?
With your CHOC Walk wristband, you’ll be able to purchase up to 5 discounted 1-Park and Park Hopper Tickets to the parks that will be good until November 6, 2015.
