Review: If you haven't heard of Crazy Rich Asians by now along with a million think pieces about the film's important to Asian representation in film and society as a whole, you've probably been living under a rock. Seeing an entirely Asian cast did make my heart clench with joy, as it is such a rare occurrence for me to be able to watch something where there isn't just one token Asian nerd. These are fully fleshed out characters with a wide range of personalities, goals, and world views. Beyond all of this, Crazy Rich Asians is just a flat out good romantic comedy. Awkwafina steals every scene she's in with her unique wit, and Gemma Chan was a standout with her strong will and effortless grace. Constance Wu is a charming lead and Henry Golding is everything a girl wants in a leading man. Michelle Yeoh also brings the star power, filling the screen with strength and attitude whenever she appears. The film itself is visually captivating and well worth seeing on the big screen. This isn't any sort of niche film. It is a Hollywood blockbuster for everyone to enjoy, and that makes it even more important to the Asian community. Definitely see this when you get the chance.
