[EDIT 2]: Ok, first off polls reopen at 1PM PT and close at 9PM PT on April 2nd.  The total changes in vote totals are as follows:
  • Karamel: -15
  • Hannigram: 0
  • Destiel: -10
  • Rules: 0
  • Klance: -10,208
  • Kylux: 0
  • Sanvers -55
  • Schmico: 0

All the votes from an IP address were removed if 5 or more votes were received in under a second.  No more votes can be received from that IP address moving forward.  If you have IT issues with voting, just send me an e-mail or leave a comment below.  I will be keeping an eye on things moving forward and will delete any fraudulent votes on a daily basis.

Also, for my own sanity, I will be reviewing previous rounds prior to the Final Four to make triple sure fraudulent votes didn't impact any results.

[EDIT]: Hi everyone!  First off, thanks for being super kind in your comments and e-mails.  And I've done a review of the voting and DID find some strange activity across ALL FOUR polls.  So I've temporarily closed these while I determine the best course of action.  Rest assured, the closed polls you see below are NOT the final results.

For a little background, with my paid account this year I can see every individual vote linked to its IP address on each poll.  Typically I see bursts of 25 votes from one IP address with each vote separate by one to two seconds.  These two polls were showing bunches of three (and sometimes as high as five or six) votes within one second at a time from the same IP address.  And this issue appears coming from multiple addresses.  I created a test fake poll to see if my fingers could move fast enough to vote the quickly, and every so often you can slip in two votes within one second but that's it at most.

I need to go through the full list of individual votes (which on the larger polls are over 100 pages) to determine which IP addresses are the problem.  I do have the ability to permanently block these addresses and delete the votes the entered.  I'm leaning towards that route, but welcome any input you may have.

Of course, once polls reopen the end date will be extended.

Thank you again to everyone who reached out.

And the polls are OFFICIALLY OPEN!  Notes for this round:
  • Polls close at 9PM PT on March 27th.
  • Please share your recs and reasons for loving your ship in the brackets.  And advice for corona induced isolation.  I'm already giving some of the links you gave last round a try.
  • I'll update the master list of recs and recipes this week.
  • You can view the updated bracket here
  • Good luck!

Since we love our recipes here, some caramel-themed ones to honour our sweet ship, Karamel! ❤️

EASY HOMEMADE CARAMEL SAUCE RECIPE

Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Yield: About 1 1/2 Cups

INGREDIENTS

1 cup sugar
6 tbsp salted butter, cubed, room temperature
1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, room temperature

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Pour sugar into an even layer in a large saucepan.
2. Heat on medium-high heat, whisking the sugar until melted. The sugar will clump up first, but will eventually completely melt. This will take about 10 minutes.
3. Once the sugar has melted, stop whisking. You can allow to cook until the sugar has turned to a little darker amber color to get a deeper caramel flavor, if you like. You may notice a nutty aroma. The change in color will happen quickly, so don’t let it go too long or get too dark or it’ll burn. Remove caramel from the heat.
4. Add butter and whisk until combined. The mixture will bubble up, but keep whisking until all the butter has melted and combined.
5. Slowly pour the heavy cream into the caramel and whisk until incorporated. I find it can help to add just a bit at a time until the caramel starts to thin out, then you can add the rest.
6. Cool for about 10-15 minutes before using. Store leftovers in a jar with a lid. Refrigerate up to 2 weeks.

EASY CARAMEL APPLE CHEESECAKE

Total Time: 2 hours 45 minutes, plus cooling time

Makes 12-15 Servings

INGREDIENTS

CRUST

2 1/4 cups (302g) graham cracker crumbs
3 tbsp (39g) sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup (112g) salted butter, melted

FILLING

24 ounces (678g) cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup (207g) sugar
3 tbsp (24g) all purpose flour
3/4 cup (173g) sour cream, room temperature
1 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
3 large eggs, room temperature

APPLE TOPPING

2 large apples, chopped
1/4 cup (56g) light brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
sprinkle of lemon juice
1/2 cup (120ml)caramel sauce

WHIPPED CREAM

1/2 cup (120ml) heavy whipping cream, cold
1/4 cup (29g) powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease a 9×13 pan.
2. Combine the crust ingredients in a small bowl. Press the mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan.
3. Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then set aside to cool.
4. Reduce the oven temperature to 300°F (148°C).
5. In a large bowl, blend the cream cheese, sugar and flour on low speed until well completely combined and smooth. Be sure to use low speed to reduce the amount of air added to the batter, which can cause cracks. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
6. Add the sour cream, vanilla extract and cinnamon and mix on low speed until well combined.
7. Add eggs one at a time, mixing slowly to combine. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed to make sure everything is well combined.
8. Pour the batter into the pan with the crust and spread evenly.
9. Bake the cheesecake for 30 minutes.
10. Turn off the oven and leave the cheesecake in the oven with the door closed for 20 minutes.
11. Crack the door of the oven, with the cheesecake inside, for 15 minutes. This slow cooling process helps prevent the cheesecake from cracking.
12. Put the cheesecake in the fridge to cool completely, 3-4 hours.
13. To make the apples for the top of the cheesecake, add the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice to a pan. Stir together until apples are well coated.
14. Cook apples on medium heat until at desired tenderness, about 10 minutes.
15. Allow the apples to cool for a minute, then spread evenly over the cooled cheesecake.
16. Drizzle the caramel sauce over the top of the cheesecake, then serve.
17. If you’d like to serve the cheesecake with the whipped cream, add the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract and cinnamon to a large mixer bowl and whip on high speed until stiff peaks form. Serve with the cheesecake slices

I vote on this bracket past two years in every round and for the first time I see that one ship grow no one by one but nothing for several seconds and sudenly 15 or 20 votes in moment. I know when a few people vote it can grow fast but not in this way... what's going on? only I see this? even when sanvers or other ships grow fast it's always one by one vote, not like this.

You mean how Klance went from having less than 3500 lead to suddenly having over 6000 vote lead?

Like a certain ship last year (* cough *sanvers! *cough *), they do seem to have found themselves a 🎩.

🎩.com must be doing a roaring trade, as Vauseman defeated Supercorp in Zimbio by almost 100 000 votes. Not suspicious at all or anything.

If KL and Sanvers meet in the final, we can expect the largest number of votes in the history of this competition 😂🤣

no, it's not the same way. like I said, I vote past two years. even when Sanvers grow fast, it's one by one vote, you can refresh page and see +1 vote per sec or more when more people vote like me and my friends. so it's not the same when Klance grow 15 or 20 in ONE SEC, it's not possible.

c
3/25/2020 06:31:10 am

I'm not here to fight, that's why I never leave comments. a year ago I made this mistake and I was insulted for no reason. This year, as the Sanvers team, we decided not to comment.
there are a few of us who live together and vote + others from group chat. we all vote, more than 10 people, that's why we have so many votes. mod explained this many times. here I decided to comment, although I do not even vote in Klance/Kylix one. but for the first time I see that poll does not come off one by one votes, but by nothing for a half of a minute and then sudenly 15 or 20 in one moment. as I said, this way is not possible when you vote in ... normal way.

many times during voting I see that the other side is rising normally, then it suddenly freezes and cannot vote. it's normal, we also have it. but then others vote. unlike the other side, when only one person votes and when it freezes, then nobody votes. but I know that in a few mins I will read comment that voting is frozen and nobody can vote. you know it's not true. but because you are voting alone, there are no sudden votes. and I know that I will read comment about it, it's always like that. and suddenly, someone reply to you that can't vote too. you are alone. everyone knows how it looks. and that's why you still talk about Sanvers,or zimbio, where I didn't even know what it was (until now).

this is the last comment I write. we wanted to share fics or other things, but unfortunately this is not possible on this page. here, I noticed something strange, that's why I decided to comment. but as I see, contact with mod is safer, at least I know that no one will insult me and my team.

SALTED CARAMEL HOT CHOCOLATE

prep time
20 MINS
total time
20 MINS
SERVINGS: 8

INGREDIENTS
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/4 tsp lemon juice fresh
4 1/2 cups milk room temperature, (I used 1%—any fat percentage you enjoy drinking should work)
8 oz milk chocolate finely chopped
2 oz dark chocolate finely chopped
Big pinch salt
Whipped cream and caramel sauce to garnish (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

1- In a small bowl, rub together the sugar and the lemon juice, until the sugar is damp and fragrant.
2- Place a medium saucepan over medium heat and let it preheat for several minutes until the pan is hot. Once the saucepan is hot, add the sugar. Begin stirring immediately and continuously. Because the pan was preheated, the sugar will start cooking very quickly. Soon after it liquefies it will start to take on color. Cook, stirring constantly, until it is a medium amber color.
3- Continue to stir while you stream in the milk. The caramel may seize and form small chunks of sugar, but continue to stir and heat the mixture, and by the time the milk is piping hot, the caramel will have melted and you will have a smooth liquid.
4- Once the milk is at a simmer (small bubbles forming along the sides of the pan) remove the pan from the heat. Don’t let the milk come to a boil! Add the chopped chocolates to the pan and whisk until the mixture is smooth and the chocolate is melted. Add a pinch of salt, taste the milk, and add more salt if desired.
5- Serve Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate with whipped cream and caramel sauce. It can be made ahead of time and kept in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat it in the microwave or on the stove top

Huh 🤔.

So, previous winners/ finalists (Clexa, Cartinelli, Stormpilot, Stucky) , and big ships (Supercorp, Sterek), and passionate ships that can vote big (Marrish, Clex) all got taken out in the first round.

Hmm 🧐. Somebody’s really tactically voting.

I mean, Stony took out Sterek 3200-2050 in Round 1. And then went down without a whimper to Karamel 500-65 in Round 2.

Elu took out Marrish 11425-9525 in Round 1, but then goes down to Rules 426-21 in Round 2!!

Oh yeah, that looks legit.

Malex took out Stucky 10125-8850 in Round 1, only to lose to Lapidot 660-255 in Round 2!!

Uh huh.

Crisana lost to Sanvers 5825-4525 in Round 1, only to then thrash Marrish 18350-12200 in the Wildcard Bracket in Round 2!!
Only to then somehow go down to Karamel 3000-12 in the Sweet Sixteen Round! 🤨

OVER 18000 VOTES IN ONE ROUND TO NOT EVEN 20 IN THE NEXT ROUND?!

Schmico lost to Sanvers 9400-5925 in Round 2, but was able to beat Marrish 17000-12850 in the Wildcard Bracket in the Sweet Sixteen Round!
And now is losing to Sanvers 6055-2049 in the Elite Eight Round!

🧐🤨
And Klance getting all those votes..
... am I the only one who thinks Sanvers had a “cunning plan” from the start to win this competition? By any means necessary.

THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS 😡🤬

Shocked and yet not surprised.

I hadn’t even looked at the previous round votes. Tactical voting is one thing.
But not if it is “wind assisted” as someone else pointed out here.

Anyway, it should all be solved soon anyway.

Now I’m off to “Irish” up my coffee. 🥃☕️

SALTED CARAMEL BARS

prep time
30 MINS
cook time
25 MINS
total time
27 MINS
SERVINGS: 20 small bars

INGREDIENTS

CRUST:
3.5 oz granulated sugar (1/2 cup)
1/2 tsp salt
5 oz unsalted butter , melted
1 egg yolk , whisked
7.5 oz all-purpose flour (1 2/3 cup)
CARAMEL LAYER:
8 oz unsalted butter (1 cup)
7.5 oz light brown sugar (1 cup, lightly packed)
8.25 oz light corn syrup (3/4 cup)
1 tsp fine sea salt
1.75 oz granulated sugar (1/4 cup)
1/4 cup heavy cream
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
Flaked sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS

1-Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a 9-by-9-inch pan by lining the bottom with a long strip of parchment paper, making sure that the paper is long enough so the ends hang over the sides of the pan. Spray the parchment and pan with nonstick cooking spray.
2-In a large bowl, stir together the sugar, salt, and melted butter with a fork. Add the egg yolk and mix well.
3-Finally, add the flour and stir until the crust is moist clumps. Transfer the dough into the parchment lined pan and press down with your hands or the bottom of a measuring cup to make an even layer. Refrigerate the crust for 15-20 minutes, until chilled.
4-Bake the crust for about 25 minutes, until lightly golden brown on top. Let the crust cool completely while you prepare the caramel topping.
5-To make the caramel topping, combine the butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, salt, granulated sugar and cream in a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan. The caramel will bubble up as it cooks, so be sure to use a pan where the mixture can triple in size.
6-Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally, and make sure that all of the sugar is dissolved. Once it's boiling, insert a candy thermometer and cook, stirring occasionally, until it reads 250 degrees F. (This will produce a bar with a medium-firm chew. For a softer chew, cook to 245 F, and for a really firm chew, shoot for 255 F.)
7-Once at the right temperature, remove the pan from the heat, stir in the vanilla extract, and pour the caramel on top of the shortbread.
8-Let the caramel sit until firm: about 2-3 hours at room temperature. You can speed up the process by refrigerating it, but it will get very hard in the refrigerator, and you might need to let it come back to room temperature before cutting and serving.
9-Once the caramel has set, remove the bars from the pan and cut it into small square or rectangles. Finish with a little pinch of flaked sea salt, and enjoy! These bars are best served and eaten at room temperature. If you have cooked them a little too long and they're harder than you like, microwave them for 5-8 seconds and the caramel will soften to a wonderfully chewy texture.

We’ll go with whatever you think best. After watching what happened on Zimbio, with bots run amuck 😱, I’m glad to see this isn’t the Wild West here.

Side note to the other karamel voters.. was I the only one voting? Because the vote only seemed to go up when I voted. I know Zimbio distracted some of us, but we need to coordinate better.

I've made a lot of progress in eliminating the incorrect votes (there are literally tens of thousands of individual votes to evaluate). /and I can see they're cycling through different IP addresses. I expect polls to reopen by 1PM PT. At that time I'll summarize the number of votes removed from each ship and how long the polls will remain open.

Thanks and stay safe!

Hi there! May I ask if you're counting as invalid all multiple votes made in one second? Because I get multiple votes like that a lot, simply by clicking the vote button quickly and having a slow connection (i.e. a lag). Same thing used to happen for kudos in Ao3, before their update (now you can't leave multiple kudos anymore). Is that a problem?

I don’t want to give to many details, but I am keeping an eye on votes and deleting any that can’t be achieved by normal means. I may not eliminate every vote from those cheating, but I’m eliminating votes that they couldn’t achieve just by casual voting.

And I definitely do get that multiple votes can happen in a second. I’m capable of achieving it myself. If you haven’t received a pop up warning blocking you from voting already, you’re definitely in the clear. But there are other statistics at play besides the multiple vote issue that show me there is some sort of bot situation going on with the votes I’m removing. I’ll give more feedback on that once the bracket is finished so you know what was happening in total.

I haven't received any pop up warning, but I also don't seem to be able to vote anymore? (that's why I asked)

My concern is that my votes were considered invalid since they were done all together in 'chunks' thanks to my connection lag, despite being all done by myself. (by bot, you mean some kind of program, right?)

Anyway, just wanted some clarification. Good luck on the poll, and I hope the issue can be resolved!

I have changed any of the actual settings of the poll, so I’m not sure why you would be having voting issues. Have you tried flushing your cookies and restarting your computer? The actions I took on the fraudulent votes would result in you receiving a pop up asking you to reach out to me with any questions if I’d accidentally blocked you.

We did it! Karamel is into the next round. And Kylux look to be a tough opponent.

But Sanvers vs Destiel...🥺😱
And Destiel just won the Endgame Ship Bracket in TV Guide.

Popcorn anyone?

Hi everyone!! Sorry I went a little radio silent. Between working from home, staying sane while sheltering in place, and yesterday’s medical emergency with my dog, things have been a little overwhelming! But I plan to be reviewing the previous rounds this week. Should any of those results change, there will be another wild card poll. If no results change, we’ll move straight to the Final Four. Either way the next round of polls will be posted to the site this Friday (4/10) at 9AM PT.

Thanks everyone and stay safe!

Glad to hear your well, and hope your doggy is getting better. Look forward to the next round (wether it’s a Wildcard round or Final Four).

Found more ideas for those in lockdown (which is most of us).
