Let’s go back to: The 1991 cult classic Hook, starring Dustin Hoffman and the late Robin Williams and directed by Steven Spielberg. This movie tells the story of an adult Peter Pan who must return to Neverland to rescue his children from the legendary pirate, Captain James Hook. The only problem is that Peter Banning, as he is now called, doesn't remember anything about Neverland after he stayed in our world to marry Wendy's granddaughter Moira Darling. With the help of the Lost Boys and their leader Rufio, Peter remembers what it means to be "The Pan" and realizes that his most powerful happy thoughts are the times he was with his children.
Why it means something to you or to our podcast: As a child, I grew up on watching this movie. My sister and I used to watch it all the time and ran down two VHS tapes before it finally came out on DVD. This movie is amazing and doesn't get enough credit. Directed by Steven Spielberg and with a score composed by none other than John Williams, this movie also stars Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell, Fandom Academy Award Winner for Best Supporting Actress, Dame Maggie Smith as Granny Wendy, and the late Bob Hoskins as Mr. Smee. Perhaps the best part of the movie for those of us who remember watching this movie as a child is the Lost Boys. Rufio is a young Lost Boy who loves never growing up and who has named himself the leader of the Lost Boys. Together, the Lost Boys coin the phrase "Bangarang!", something that children of the 90's will all recognize. I can't say enough good things about this movie! Do yourself a favor and see this movie! Where can you find it now? This movie has become quite the cult classic and can be found streaming on Netflix and Amazon Instant Video. As a real throwback, I give you the original movie trailer:
