Let’s go back to: At the last minute back in 2000, CBS added a little show called CSI: Crime Scene Investigation to its Friday night line up. And television history was changed forever.
Why it means something to you or to our podcast: This show in its prime was a personal favorite of mine. I'm a sucker for a good tv crime drama and shows where science nerds rule. Clearly a show like this was tailor made for me. It really kicked off, for better or worse, the modern obsession of networks with the more science oriented crime drama. It's influence can be seen across a wide spectrum of shows as it helped familiarize the public with modern investigative techniques. The "CSI effect" on actual criminal cases is still under debate. Where can you find it now? The series concluded with a two hour television movie this past Sunday, and the final remaining part of the franchise (CSI: Cyber) airs on Sunday nights on CBS. Ted Danson will be joining the cast this season continuing his role as D.B. Russell from the original series. -C
