Let’s go back to: Smash The short-lived NBC musical drama gave us an insight to what the path to Broadway looked like from the audition process to workshops to opening on Broadway. The show starred Debra Messing, Anjelica Houston, American Idol's Katharine McPhee, Pirates of the Caribbean star Jack Davenport, and a long list of Broadway stars: Megan Hilty (Wicked), Krysta Rodriguez (Spring Awakening), Andy Mientus (Les Miserables), Christian Borle (Peter and the Starcatcher), Brian d'Arcy James (Something Rotten!), Will Chase (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), Ann Harada (Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella), Leslie Odom, Jr (Hamilton) and Jeremy Jordan (Newsies). The show spawned two fake (but successful) musicals Bombshell and Hit List and the cast recently reunited to perform the songs from the show Bombshell in New York. Suffice it to say that this show had a very specific target audience and that audience loved it. Why it means something to you or to our podcast: Though the show only ran for a total of two seasons, it was one of my favorite shows on NBC at the time. It was a time before Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon original shows and I still think it would play well as one of the original shows for these streaming services. If only it could still be picked up! Where can you find it now? Both seasons of this show can now be found on Amazon Instant Video and you can watch their performance of their hit song "Broadway, Here I Come" from the series finale below. -- Kelly Lee
